He is the only Indian batsman to score more than 300 runs in four consecutive Test series.

As of April 2018, he was the sixth-highest run-scorer for India in the Twenty20 International.

His Inspiring life

Gambhir started playing cricket at the age of 10. He completed his studies at Modern School, New Delhi and further studies at Hindu College.

He lived in his maternal uncle Pawan Gulati’s house in the 90s and considers him his mentor. Often they call him before any important match.

Domestic cricket career

He made his debut in the Indian Premier League with the Delhi Daredevils, after which he played for the Kolkata Knight Riders where he won the title 2 times, captaining him very well.

International Cricket Career

Gambhir scored two consecutive double centuries in 2002 (one of them was against Zimbabwe), making him a strong contender for India’s opener in all three forms of the game.

He made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in the 2003 TVS Cup.

He made some modifications in his second Test against South Africa by scoring 96 runs. His first Test century came against Bangladesh in December 2004.

Gambhir was the opening batsman of the home series against Pakistan several times in 2005 but was able to score only one half-century in six innings.

He played a crucial inning of 75 off 54 balls against Pakistan in the final.

He became the party’s candidate from East Delhi in the 2019 Indian General Election.

Gautam defeated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Atishi Marlena and Congress’s Arvinder Singh Lovely by 695,109 votes.

Awards

Gautam Gambhir was honored with the Arjuna Award by the Government of India in 2008.

He has also been awarded the Padma Shri in 2019.

Gambhir was the only Indian and one of four international cricketers to have scored hundreds in five consecutive Test matches. He is the only Indian batsman to have scored more than 300 runs in four consecutive Test series.

In October 2018, during the quarter-finals of the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored his 10,000th run in List A cricket. In December 2018, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket

Under Gambhir’s captaincy, Kolkata Knight Riders won their first IPL title in 2012 and went on to win the title again in 2014.
